For two or more days, my Twitter account has been spammed with these messages:
I know these are spam, and fakes, but their insistence made me curious. So I entered their Twitter profile and found the link to the so-called giveaway website. It looked like this:
I have to admit, it was really good looking. It even had a "recent comments" section full of people saying how wonderful this webpage was.
Ok, then. Everything looks perfect. It's time to try it. I introduce all the things they ask me but, of course, I use a fake Stardoll account. It asked me to use a proxy but I said no, because as all of you know, Stardoll doesn't allow proxys and using them might end with your account banned.
You could choose how much Starpoints, Stardollars and Starcoins do you want. I didn't put a lot, but it was really suspicious that you could choose quantities such as 10'000 Stardollars, knowing that the limit you can have is 1'000.
After completing everything, I clicked on "Generate". That's what happened:
Weird black box appeared, with weird letters and symbols, and the page started to charge again. It's curious: the black box wasn't a pop-up, it appeared ON the web, which is not usual. I've been studying some informatics and it should have been opened in a new tab or window, and not just ON the current page.
Wohooo! Another weird thing appeared. An "Anti Bot Verification" which started to charge. After 5 minutes, it was still charging, so I clicked on "Verify with Offer".
I quitted quickly because these webpages are also a hotbed of virus. I checked my laptop status and nothing had been downloaded during my time trying this giveaway page, but to make sure, I also checked my antivirus. Nothing had happened, but it was just luck: other times I've tried these fake pages, foreign software started to install automatically in my laptop.
Oh, and when I closed these webpages, a pop-up (this time for real) appeared several times in each of them asking me if I was sure I wanted to leave.
To sum up: this is bullshit. All these offers and giveaway pages are. Just think, why would anyone give you for free something that costs REAL money (in that case, Stardollars, Starcoins, etc)? They use this hook to get access to your laptop or collect some precious personal information, or both.
Be aware dollies: these things are not for free, and all the suspicious pages/users/offers that are NOT officially Stardoll are fake. Don't even try them, or do it with a good antivirus installed in your PC.
P.S. When I tried to post a comment, I realised there wasn't a "send" button!! How am I supposed to send anything? Hilarious, don't you think?
